Alex Joseph Dechant, age 85, died in rural Bazine, Kansas on July 4, 2017. He was born on the family farm on February 9, 1932 the son of Antone and Susie (Schneider) Dechant.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, a farmer, rancher, and a custom cutter.

On March 12, 1953 he married Joyce Kleweno in Bazine, Kansas. She preceded him in death on March 11, 1996.

He is survived by two sons, Robert and Barry Dechant, both of Bazine; one daughter, Joy Dechant of Great Bend; a sister, Lucy Preisser of Hutchinson; and a sister in law, Shirley Dechant of California.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; four brothers, John, Henery, Leslie, and Adam; and three sisters, Loretta Giltner, Isidora Tabor, and Lillie Munsch.

Viewing will be on Saturday, July 8, 2017, 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until service time. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City. Rosary and Parish Vigil will be on Sunday, July 9, 2017, starting at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral Service will be on Monday, July 10, 2017, 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Ness City. Burial in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Bazine.
