Obituary

Bernard F. Schuler, age 76, died March 14, 2010 at the Veterans' Administration Hospital, Clinton, Oklahoma. He was born March 6, 1934 in Ness City, Kansas the son of Otto and Clara Werner Schuler.

He was a member of the machinist union Dist Lodge 70 IAM & AW AFL-CIO for the aircraft manufacturing industry having worked in Wichita for many years in with Learjet and Beachcraft/Raytheon. He held a pilot and A&P license. Bernard worked as a mechanic for Farm Better Feeds, Garden City, and Coca Cola. He was also a licensed locksmith. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, a United Way Guardian; he worked with under privileged children and was active in many service projects in the Wichita area. He was a veteran of the Korean War, United States Air Force. He was a member of the American Legion Frank Stull Post No. 152, Ness City and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7972, Ransom. Bernard was also an accomplished guitar player and played back-up for Roy Clark.

He married Jeanette Love in 1970 and then married Evelyn Kriegler Bales in 2003. He is survived by his son, Theodore Otto Schuler; his daughter, Tina Marie; one sister, Frances Pfannenstiel and 5 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Orrie, Verlin, and Raymond and two sisters: Katherine Dome and Rita Boehm.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, March 18, 2010, 10:30 am at the Sacred Heart Church, Ness City. Rosary and Parish Vigil will be at the church on Wednesday, 6:30pm. Burial in the Sacred Heart Cemetery with military graveside Rites by the American Legion. Friends may call at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City on Tuesday from 9am – 9pm and on Wednesday from 9am until 3:00pm and at the church from 5:00pm until service time. Memorial contributions may be given to the Sacred Heart Cemetery Fund.
