Carolyn Sue Carpenter, 78, passed away on September 22, 2016 at the Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas. She was born on March 27, 1938 in Hazelton, Kansas the daughter of Elmer and Metta (Folk) Arb.

She was a homemaker, and worked as a janitor for the Platte Canyon School District #1 in Bailey, Colorado. With her family she raised and showed Appaloosa's and Quarter horses. She married John Carpenter in 1981. He preceded her in death on November 1, 2010.

Survivors include her daughter, Robin Oakes and Clark Denley of Federal Heights, Colorado; sons, Ricky (Joette) Riley of Littleton, Colorado and Rusty Riley of Pueblo, Colorado; Stepsons, David (Susie) Carpenter of Shawnee, Colorado and Bruce (Tina) Carpenter of Bailey, Colorado; 19 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Carpenter; son, Randy Riley; and sisters, Lois Cooper, Virginia Brown, and June Dent.

Visitation will be on Friday, October 14, 2016, 10:30 am at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City.

Memorial contributions may be given to the American Quarter Horse Association, the Rush or Ness County EMS, or the DeBakey Heart Clinic, Hays.
