Darrell M. Holmes, age 92, died May 26 at Harry Hynes Hospice, St. Francis Hospital, Wichita. Born October 15, 1917 the son of Fahey and Alma McCartee Holmes at Utica, Kansas. A long time Utica resident, moving to Wichita in 2008. He was a rural mail carrier and farmer. He was a US Navy Veteran of World War II, a member of the First Christian Church, Utica, Past Grand Patron, Kansas Order of the Eastern Star, 60 year Member of the Walnut Valley Masonic Lodge, Ness City, 50 year Member of the Starlight Chapter of Eastern Star at Ness City, Served on the Silver Haired Legislature, Board of Southwest Kansas Area on Aging, Ness County Farm Bureau Board, Grisell Memorial Hospital Board, Ransom and St. Bernard Eastern Star Chapter of Dodge City.

He married Agnes Corenne Atwell on December 24, 1938, Utica. She died August 7, 2006. He is survived by daughter, Carol McEwen, Wichita, son, Leroy and wife Jan, Salina, 5 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great, great granddaughter.

Funeral service will be Saturday, May 29, 2:00 pm at the First Christian Church, Utica with Rev. James Brackett presiding. Visitation will be on Friday at Fitzgerald Funeral Home from 9am until 9pm. Burial in the Utica Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Utica First Christian Church or the Starlight Endowment Fund.
