Debra S. (Engler) Erb, age 71, passed away on January 27, 2025, at Residence Begonia II at Crestview Senior Living in Wichita, Kansas. Born on July 11, 1953, in Garden City, Kansas, she was the daughter of Herman and Colleen (Salmans) Engler.
Debra graduated from Ness City High School in 1971. She married Paul Schwien on May 29, 1971, and they had twin boys, Cory and Barry, whom she loved dearly. After their divorce, Debra married Rod Erb on December 15, 1995, in Hays, Kansas, and they later moved to Ransom, Kansas.
Debra enjoyed her work at the Ransom Library, where she delighted in reading books and playing games with children, especially her grandchildren. Known for her mulberry dumplings and butterball soup, she loved sharing these with her family. Her grandchildren were often spoiled with Dr. Thunder and Uncrustables. Debra had a passion for Kansas University Basketball and cared deeply for her two dogs, Mollie and Sammy.
She is survived by her husband Rod Erb of Ransom, Kansas; her children Cory (Tracee) Schwien of Ness City, Kansas, and Barry (Sharla) Schwien of Bazine, Kansas; her sister Mary (Fred) Erb of Longmont, Colorado; her brother Jeff (Jennifer) Smith of Ness City, Kansas; as well as 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Patty (Neil) Meckfessel of Rozel, Kansas.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at the Ness City Methodist Church, Ness City, Kansas, followed by burial in the Ness City Cemetery. Friends may call at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City, Kansas, on Thursday, January 30, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., with the family present from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Ransom Public Library.
Words of comfort and support may be left for the family by writing in the guestbook.
