Obituary

Delano Dean "Doc" Schwindt, age 85, died on Sunday, October 7, 2018 at Grisell Memorial Hospital, Ransom. He was born on September 2, 1933 near Utica, Kansas the son of Benjamin and Ella (Foos) Schwindt.

Doc graduated from the eighth grade in a country school in Trego County that was situated on the family farm and then he attended Utica High School for a couple of years until he went to work full time on the family farm. Doc was a hard worker and good provider for his family. He never met a stranger; everyone was his friend. Doc loved to hunt and fish. He was well known for his "dead eye" shooting and his trick shots. He enjoyed fishing, but his passion was hunting: deer, coons, coyotes, pheasants, or anything that moved, crawled, jumped or flew.

Doc married Amelia Rohr on August 27, 1952 in Park, Kansas. They made their home on the family farm near Utica where they raised their five children. He taught his children the value of hard work and good play just as he had been taught. While on the farm Doc also hauled water for the oil field. In 1985 Doc and Millie moved to Colby, Kansas to operate the Country Club Motel. They returned to Utica in 1991. He then played a vital role in Aeroswint, the family business, as well as helping work on the family farm.

Delano is survived by his wife of 66 years, Amelia; his two daughters, Marilyn Johnson (Billy) of Utica and Carolyn Folkenroth (Joe) of Clinton, Arkansas; two sons, Bobbie Schwindt (Donna) of Colby and Rick Schwindt (Mary) of Utica; one brother, Lyle Schwindt (Deana) of Cheyenne Wells, Colorado; 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Randy Schwindt; two brothers, Lawrence and Ben Schwindt; and one sister, Mildred Brau.
