Delmar Von Lehe, age 77, passed away Saturday August 10, 2013 at Cedar Village Long Term Care in Ness City after a two year battle with cancer. He was born June 14, 1936 on the family farm near Palmer, KS, the youngest child of George and Clara (Herrs) Von Lehe.
Delmar graduated from St. John's Lutheran School, Palmer KS in 1950, he then began working for a local farmer. Delmar worked in this area for a few years before enlisting with the Army National Guard in the fall of 1958. He served for three years as a Tractor operator before being honorably discharged in June of 1961.
June 24, 1962 Delmar was united in marriage to Marjorie Jean Rollins in Alma KS. She preceded him in death earlier this year, but not before they were able to celebrate fifty years as husband and wife. To this union three children were born, Jeffery Von Lehe, James (Sheila) Von Lehe, and Kristie (Gerome) Copeland, they survive.
Delmar and Jean lived in the Manhattan area as they began their life together; this is where Jeff and Jim were born. In 1971 they decided to make a change and moved the family to Ness City to begin farming. This is where their daughter Kristie was born. In 1973 they moved from Ness City to a farm south of town where they lived and farmed until Delmar's retirement in 2012. He continued to live there until the summer of 2013 when complications of cancer made it too difficult to live at home any longer; he then moved to the Cedar Village Long Term Care Facility in Ness City.
Delmar served on the Farm Bureau board in Ness County, he also spent many hours at the fairgrounds over the years as his children and grandchildren were involved in 4-H, showing livestock and horses. He followed his kids in their sporting events as well as the grandkids in later years. Delmar bowled on leagues in Manhattan as well as Ness City for many years before having to give it up due to the strain it put on his shoulder and elbow.
Delmar was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Delbert Von Lehe. Surviving family members include a sister Darlene Von Lehe, Clay Center, KS, sister-in-law Bonnie Von Lehe, Clay Center KS, cousin David Herrs, Green KS, sister-in-law Janice Davies, Leonardville KS, niece Merlene (John) Hougland, Leondarville KS, grandchildren Andrew (AJ) Von Lehe, Hays KS, Melissa (Milo) Lippelman, Oberlin KS, Levi Von Lehe, Drew Von Lehe and Tucker Von Lehe all of Ness City KS, Candee (Justin) Langer, Ness City KS, Gwendolyn Copeland and Gretchen Copeland, Ness City KS, great-granddaughter Ryllie Lippelman, Oberlin KS.
