Obituary

Douglas R. Petersilie, 71, passed away on February 12, 2020 at his home in Ness County, Kansas. He was born on December 20, 1948 in Dodge City, Kansas the son of Ray and Martina (Lang) Petersilie. He was baptized at Sacred Heart Church in Ness City.

Doug attended school in Ness City, graduating from high school in 1967. After spending one year at Garden City Community College, he transferred to Fort Hays State University where he was a member of Alpha Kappa Lambda fraternity. He married Jeanie Shank on December 31, 1972. After graduating from Fort Hays, they moved to his family's farm in southern Ness County. He was lifetime farmer – stockman. He served his community on various boards and for a few years as an EMS responder. He also served in the Army Reserves for six years.

He is survived by his wife, three children and their spouses, and seven grandchildren: Jared and Erin Petersilie, Ethan and Jadyn, LaCrosse, Kansas; Travis and Laurie Petersilie, Emma, Isabel, and Aubrey, Ness City, Kansas; and Kalyn and Kyle Newman, Koby and Kade, Ringwood, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service will be on Monday, February 17, 2020, 10:30 A.M., at First Baptist Church, Ness City, Kansas. Burial in the Ness City Cemetery. Friends may call at Fitzgerald Funeral Home on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 10:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M., with the family present on Sunday, February 16, 2020, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Ness County EMS.
