Fay Darlene
Foos
August 22, 1925 – April 12, 2020
Fay Darlene Foos, age 94, went to be with the Lord on April 12, 2020. She was born on her parent's farm south of Lucas on August 22, 1925 the daughter of Charles and Lydia (Heinze) Votruba.
In her early years she taught at a one room country schoolhouse in the Lucas, KS area. She would teach school during the day and her evenings would be busy helping on her father's farm. Times were hard, the work long, and economic depression, drought, and dust filled those early years. But her generation was tough, they survived and flourished in-spite of it all—through self-sacrifice, hard work, and a trust in God. They truly were and continue to be "the greatest generation".
She married Lee Dale Foos in Hays on September 12, 1948. He was the love of her life. They began their married life together in Boulder, CO while he was finishing his engineering degree. They eventually moved to Wichita where Fay taught first grade and where they stayed and raised their family.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved spending time with her family, going to ball games & sporting events for her grandchildren and traveling in the car seeing the countryside. She had a passion for teaching and was very involved with the UMW Women's group. She held season tickets to Music Theater, taking her grandchildren to a performance each season. Fay and Lee Dale encouraged the grandchildren with their educations and were able to see all three graduate with degrees.
After their kids were grown the two traveled to Europe and spent time in Germany researching family genealogy and learning German. They enjoyed traveling around the U.S. in pursuit of family history. The two would tell of travels to out-of-the-way cemeteries where they would find relations, solving mysteries to fill out the family tree. The two of them collaborated in writing three books and generating additional family history from their pursuits. Shortly before the time of Lee Dale's death, they had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Genealogy continued to be a passion of Fay's throughout the rest of her years. She was an active member of the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia and the United Methodist Church.
Fay is survived by her son, Blake Foos and his wife, Karen, of Elizabeth, Colorado; her daughter Charissa Roots of Wichita; her sister Delores Pack of Santa Fe, New Mexico, three grandchildren, Cindy Vickers, Allen Roots, and Brandon Foos and two great grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Charles and Lydia Votruba, husband, Lee Dale Foos and son-in-law, Ron Roots.
She loved, was loved, and will be missed by her family. May she rest in peace with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Funeral service will be held at the Bazine Cemetery, Bazine on Saturday, April 18, 2020, 1:30 p.m. Viewing will be on Saturday, April 18, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
