Obituary

Franklin Eugene "Dean" Merryfield, age 93, passed away on June 14, 2025, at Cedar Village Care Center in Ness City, Kansas. He was born in Beeler, Kansas on December 24, 1931, to parents Jacob and Myrtle (Schamaun) Merryfield.

Dean grew up on a farm in Beeler, Kansas.  He loved the farm and found much satisfaction and peace at the farm.  He drove a truck for Rock Island Oil and Koch Industries for over 22 years hauling crude oil and ammonia out of Enid, Oklahoma.  He returned to Ness County in 1976 to work the family farm where he raised cattle and donkeys.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Myrtle Merryfield, his first wife, Revel Chapman Merryfield Coen, his wife, Elaine Pool Merryfield, his son, Bradley Dean Merryfield, his brothers, George Delbert Merryfield, Donald Duane Merryfield (Charlotte Sisk), his sisters, Arlene Merryfield Pearce (Blaine Pearce), and Ilene Merryfield Norton (Leonard Norton).

He is survived by his daughters, Cheryl J. Merryfield Rich, Deana K. Merryfield Armstrong, grandchildren, Emily Rudy, Travis Odom (Allison), Nicholas Merryfield, Cody Merryfield, Maverick Merryfield, and one great grandson, William Middleton Odom, stepchildren Sharon Pool Erskin, Debbie Pool Hawley, and Duane Pool (Faye)  and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be on Friday, June 20, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Beeler Cemetery, Beeler, Kansas.  Friends may call at Fitzgerald Funeral Home on June 19, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Beeler Cemetery Fund or the American Kidney Foundation.
