Obituary

Gerald Thomas Barnes, 83, passed away on December 28, 2024, at the Pawnee Valley Community Hospital in Larned, Kansas.  He was born on September 8, 1941, in McCracken, Kansas the son of Thomas and Mary (Herrman) Barnes.

G.T. graduated from McCracken High School in 1959 and then went to St. Mary's of the Plains College where he earned a teaching degree in 1963.  After several years of teaching, he returned home to farm and raise cattle.  On April 4, 1964, he married Signe Combest in Ransom, Kansas.  G.T. was a Third Degree Knight of Columbus and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Liebenthal, Kansas.

GT is survived by his wife, Signe; daughter, Brenda (Stuart) Clancy of Calgary, Canada; two sons, Gary (Colleen) Barnes of McCracken and Bruce Barnes of Ness City; two sisters, Marian Gonzalez of Denver, CO and Claudia Barnes Hubbard of Wichita; four grandchildren, Hailey and Harley Clancy, Lexea (Blake) Hornung, and Landon Barnes; and three great-grandchildren, Lilly, Hazel, and Hayden Hornung.

Parish Vigil will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Monday, December 30, 2024, 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the church on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. followed by burial in the McCracken Cemetery. Viewing will be held at the church prior to each service.

Memorial contributions may be given to the St. Joseph Catholic Church.
