Gertrude Lucille Slagle, age 87, passed away on December 14, 2019 at Cedar Village, Ness City. She was born on July 24, 1932 in Ness County the daughter of Clarence and Cecil (Davis) Whipple.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Stitch and Chatter Club both of Beeler. She worked as a volunteer at the Pratt Hospital and as a bookkeeper at the Beeler Coop. Gertrude married Floyd Slagle on July 29, 1951 in Ness City. He preceded her in death on July 7, 1995.

Gertrude is survived by her son, Brent Slagle and his wife, Tina of Ness City; her daughter, Diana Higdon and her husband, Everett, of Pratt; three brothers, Ray Whipple and his wife, Joyce, of Ness City, Terry Whipple and his wife, Kay, of Quinter, and Ned Whipple of Russell; three sisters, Rosie Johnston of Las Vegas, Lois Mauch and her husband, John, of Beeler and Peggy Young and her husband, Jeff, of Ness City; daughter-in-law, Barbie Slagle of Brooklyn, Iowa; six grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, her son, Bradley Slagle, her brother, Earl Whipple; grandson, Nathan Slagle; and great-great granddaughter, Laramie Jones.

Funeral service will be on December 18, 2019, 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, Ness City followed by burial in the Buda Cemetery. Friends may call at Fitzgerald Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
