Gloriann Marie Goodman, age 80, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, at the Ness County Hospital, Ness City, Kan. She was born Sept. 3, 1929, on a farm south of Collyer, Kan., the daughter of Louis and Rose Haselhorst Berens.
She was a homemaker and a farm wife. She cooked for the Sacred Heart School, Ness City, for 18 years before retiring in 1999. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, where she was a Sacristan, Eucharistic Minister, lector and member of the the Altar Society. She was also a member of the American Legion Frank Stull Post 152 Auxiliary and served as the District 8 president in 2003 and 2004. Gloriann was an active participant in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life from its inception in Ness County.
On May 23, 1950, she married Charles Goodman in Collyer. He preceded her in death on Aug. 9, 1992. She is survived by: three sons, Allen and his wife, Treva, and Craig and his wife, Kelle, all of Ness City, and Charles and his wife, Christina, Shawnee, Kan.; three daughters, Lori Spencer and her husband, Terry, Washington, D.C., Joyce Temaat and her husband, Dennis, Dodge City, and Darla Amstein and her husband, Brad, Mission, Kan.; one brother, Robert Berens, WaKeeney; four sisters: Mary Lou Goetz, WaKeeney, Darlene Stenzel, Overland Park, Joan Deges, Denver, and Karen Coons, Charlestown, N.H.; 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Dwight and Mark, and one great grandson, Matthew Goodman.
Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 23, 2009, at the Sacred Heart Church, Ness City, with Father Mike Helms presiding. Parish Rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 22, at the funeral home, with the parish vigil following at 7 p.m.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday and from 9-10:15 a.m. on Friday at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City.
Burial in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Ness City.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Sacred Heart School.
