Obituary

Gomer Quintin Stukesbary, age 87, passed away on May 21, 2014 at Cedar Village, Ness City. He was born on August 13, 1926 in Nevada, Missouri the son of Wilbur Dewey and Hazel Irene Noyes Stukesbary.

On November 27, 1947 he married Becky Ainsworth in Nevada, Missouri. Their 66 years together produced three children, many memories and accomplishments.

Gomer was a Boy Scout and Adult Scouter. He was a local and council leader and supporter of the Boy Scouts of America. He was a Spanish Peaks Scout Ranch Founder, Troop 131 Committee Member and he was awarded the Silver Beaver by the Santa Fe Trail Council. Gomer was a veteran of World War II serving in the US Army Air Corps and was a member of the Ness City American Legion Post 152. He attend the University of Kansas where he earned his Pharmacy Degree, he was a member of the Kansas Pharmaceutical Association, KU School of Pharmacy Advisory Board and was awarded the "Bowl of Hygia", a national pharmacy award for community service. Gomer was a member of the Ness City Lyons and Rotary Clubs, Industrial Development Board, Ness County Hospital Foundation Board, former city council member, and police commissioner. He was an American Red Cross Disaster Director, South Shore Cabin Owners Association President, Cedar Bluff Lake Association Board, attended the Ness City United Methodist Church, and was a member of Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited, and the NRA.

Gomer is survived by his wife Becky; son, Robert Duane (Jana) Stukesbary, Topeka; two daughters, Leta Jo Stukesbary, Hays; and Debra Kay (Steve) Harvey, WaKeeney; brother, Don (Betty) Stukesbary, Nevada, Missouri; cherished family friend, Wanda Gabel, Ness City; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Hayes and brother-in-law, Robert Hayes.

Funeral Service will be on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, 10:30 A.M. at The United Methodist Church, Ness City with burial following in the Ness City Cemetery. Friends may call at Fitzgerald Funeral Home on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday from 10:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M. with with the family present from 7-9 pm on Monday. Memorial contributions may be given to Boy Scout Troop 131 or the Ness County Hospital Foundation.
