Gwendolyn L. Miner, age 97, passed away at the Ness County Hospital, Ness City, on March 12, 2016.
She was born on December 7, 1918 in rural Nickerson, Kansas, the daughter of Lee Roy Walter and Frances (Cox) Lee.
Gwen was a graduate of Kansas State University, received her Master's degree from Fort Hays State, and attended the Sorbonne in Paris, France for a time.
She was a high school teacher for most of her life. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma, PEO Sisterhood, Eastern Star, Teacher's Union, and served on the Hospital Board. She was also an active member of the United Methodist Church, Ness City, and active with the Boy Scouts. She loved to paint and garden. She was an avid golfer and bridge player. She enjoyed reading and above all, she was a wonderful grandmother.
On May 28, 1942, she married Alden Miner. He survives.
Other survivors include son, Dennis (Judy) Miner, Shawnee, KS; daughter-in-law, Beth Miner, Ness City; grandchildren, Allen (Carrie) Miner, Andrea (Shannon) Washburn, Ann (Shawn) Gottfried, Daniel Miner; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and son, William Miner.
Cremation will take place as per family wishes.
Memorial service will be Saturday, March 19, 2016, 2:00 P.M. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Cedar Village Long Term Care.
