James Joseph Lawlor, 72, of Ness City, Kansas, passed away peacefully at his home on May 31, 2026.
Jim was born on June 17, 1953, in Yonkers, New York, to James and Regina (Young) Lawlor.
Throughout his career, Jim worked as a peripatologist, traveling across Kansas to assist students with visual impairments in achieving independence and success through vocational rehabilitation. He approached his work with unwavering dedication, compassion, and high expectations, encouraging each student to reach their fullest potential. The lives he touched through his service stand as a lasting testament to his commitment and care.
An avid reader, Jim's love of books led him to serve on the Ness City Library Board, where he helped support literacy and learning in his community. He also enjoyed hunting and treasured the time spent outdoors.
On July 19, 1989, Jim married Elizabeth Jarrett in Colby, Kansas. Together they shared nearly 37 years of marriage. Elizabeth survives him.
In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by his dog Tesh; cat Jizo II; mother, Regina Lawlor of Flagler Beach, Florida; his brother, John Lawlor (Laura) of Dublin, New Hampshire; his sisters, Reggie Breeckner (Randy) of Waterville Valley, New Hampshire, and Mea Sgaglio (Lenny) of Pound Ridge, New York; his brothers-in-law, Robert Jarrett Jr. (Jane) of Midland, Texas, Mack Jarrett (Malynda) of Hutchinson, Ruben Jarrett of Hanston, and Larry Jarrett (Shelly) of Wichita and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Lawlor; his sister, Corinne Telesco; his parents-in-law Bob and Eleanor Jarrett; his sisters-in-law, Cindy Jarrett, Norma Jarrett, and Kathy Jarrett; faithful dogs Tiger, Bishop, Monk, Zoe, Hachi and loved cats Schneider, Mitz, Mrs. Chippy, Jizo I.
Memorial service will be held at the Ness County Bank Building, 3rd Floor, in Ness City, on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be held at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Saturday, June 13, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
