Obituary

Jean was born March 5, 1943 in Emporia Kansas, the second daughter of Walter & Orvis (Edwards) Rollins. She departed this life Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at the age of 69, after a four year battle with colon cancer.

Jean was raised in the Lebo-Melvern-Alma area graduating from Alma High School in 1961. She married Delmar Von Lehe on June 24, 1962 in Alma, KS. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past June.

As they began their life together they resided in Manhattan, KS where they had two sons, Jeff and Jim. She was busy working for the Manhattan Wholesale Meat Co. and taking care of their two sons. In 1971 they decided to begin anew and moved themselves and their sons to Ness City and begin farming.

Jean worked for Jenny's Fabric Shop when they first moved to Ness City. She was also involved in many organizations and served on several boards throughout her years in Ness City. Jean donated time as a 4-H leader while her children were involved in 4-H. She also gave many hours to the 4-H extension council, Farm Bureau board, Credit Union board, and FSA board

In 1973 Jean and Delmar moved their family to a small farm south of Ness City to live in the country. After a short time Delmar and Jean started farming on their own where Jean spent her time running a tractor and baler, or driving a wheat truck at harvest time. She enjoyed her time working alongside Delmar on the family farm. In December of that year a daughter was born, Kristie (Von Lehe) Copeland completed the family. Jean was at home with their kids and continued to work on the farm, and when there was down time on the farm she worked for Helen Hertal's Taxidermy. When Kristie started school Jean found herself with more time on her hands and made the decision to go back to work in town; she started her new career at South Fork Meat Processing, then made the move to Ralph's Bestyet Supermarket where she worked in the meat department which she truly loved. She enjoyed the opportunity to see and visit with so many people as they shopped. Seeing the people was one of the things she missed the most as her health no longer allowed her to work.

Jean's passion was bowling. She and Delmar bowled on leagues while in the Manhattan area and continued when they moved to Western Kansas. Jean participated in 40 state bowling tournaments, 33 national tournaments, was a member of a traveling team that let her see the inside of about every bowling alley in Western and Central Kansas. She was also a big fan of her grandchildren and supported them in all of their activities from baseball, football, volleyball, basketball, track, dance, church, and school programs. There were not many events Jean missed when it came to her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter & Orvis Rollins and brothesr-in-law Mervin Davies and Delbert Von Lehe.

She is survived by husband, Delmar, sons Jeff Von Lehe and Jim (Sheila) Von Lehe and daughter Kristie (Gerome) Copeland and grandchildren Andrew (AJ), Levi, Candee, Drew and Tucker Von Lehe, Gwendolyn and Gretchen Copeland, Missy (Milo) Lippelmann, great-grand daughter Ryllie Lippelmann, sister Janice Davies, niece Merlene (John) Hougland, and sister-in-law Darlene Von Lehe and Bonnie Von Lehe
