Obituary

John Seib, age 70, died on October 26, 2023, at HaysMed, Hays, Kansas. He was born on April 19, 1953, in Ness City, Kansas, the son of Pete and Elvira (Stecklein) Seib.

He graduated from Ness City High School in 1971. After graduation, John began working with his father in the family business, S & S Pipe & Steel, in Ness City. For a couple of years, he lived in Denver, Colorado where he worked for his brother, Pete Jr.  He then returned to Ness City and later took over the family business in 2002 when his father died.

In 1973 he married Kathy Frank. Three children were born to this marriage. John later married Barbara (Overlease) Fritzler on December 5, 1987. One daughter was born to this marriage. Barb preceded him in death on April 1, 1997. He married Claudia McCreight on May 26, 2007, in Port Canaveral, Florida. She survives of the home.

John and Claudia enjoyed a lot of traveling including 10 cruises. Overall, they cruised the entire United States coast including Alaska, the Pacific Coastline, Western and Eastern Caribbean cruise destinations, New York City to Bermuda, and New England to Nova Scotia. They also went to Las Vegas several times every year, which often included taking along some of their kids and their spouses. John had a blast coaching them, and Claudia, on how to play all of his favorite poker games.

John enjoyed his job and called it just a fun game he loved to play. Many of his customers easily became some of his very close friends. He also had many hobbies, including reading, watching old westerns, and attending his grandchildren's activities. His one true love was time spent with his grandkids who he absolutely adored. He had a bold, hearty laugh. He had certain favorite jokes he really loved to tell, and the more he drank, the louder and funnier he got. While he was always willing to make you laugh, he was also a steadfast man willing to simply listen anytime he knew family or friends just needed his emotional support.

He had a great love of hunting. Over the years, he enjoyed numerous, successful elk hunting trips in Wyoming and New Mexico with special longtime friends. He especially loved deer hunting with his son and grandsons every year. Knowing he was passing on his passion for hunting to his grandsons brought him great joy.

Other survivors include his children; Julie (Chad) Stein, Blake (Crystal) Seib, Cassi Seib, Jacob Fritzler, Justin Fritzler, Darcy (Dylan) Gross, Megan (Jason) Kennedy and Marla (Tommy) Wessel; and 12 grandchildren, Brooks, Chance, Samuel, Elliot, Braxton, Savanna, Adella, Everett, Brecken, Owen, Audrey, and Conner; four brothers and two sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Barbara. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in John's memory.

At John's request there will not be a funeral or celebration of life. He asked that his friends and family honor his life by remembering him through photographs, videos, and sharing memories with each other. Photos and memories can be shared by writing in the guest book and uploading photos to his obituary website.
