Joselyn Jean
Kirkman
March 17, 1933 – April 12, 2024
Jocelyn (Joy) Jean Kirkman, 91, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2024, at Cedar Village Long Term Care in Ness City, Kansas.
Joy was born March 17, 1933, in Ransom, Kansas, to Leo and Margaret (White) Mishler. She graduated from Ransom High School and attended Fort Hays State University where she was a cheerleader and a music major.
Joy married Gary Antenen on February 14, 1953. To this union was born three children Kyle, Kim, and Karma. Joy was a proud parent and an avid Kansas State University fan. She took pride in all three of her children graduating from K-State. Later in life, she moved to Wichita where she met and married Wayne Kirkman, who preceded her in death.
When she moved back to Ness City, Joy loved going to the farm, the Goodman Dam and visiting with everyone sharing stories. Joy was a very giving woman and love to feed friends, family and any visitor that showed up at her table hungry. Many people share fond memories of Joy's meals that were transported to farm sites for harvest. Besides being a wonderful cook, she was a gardener. She also was musically inclined and talented at both the saxophone and piano.
Joy was a member of PEO, Wild West Catbackers, a Den Mother for Boy Scouts, and sang in the Ness City United Methodist Church choir.
Joy was preceded in death by her mother, father, brother Richard Mishler, and husband Wayne Kirkman.
Joy is survived by her children Kyle (Gail) Antenen, Kim (Rick) Hancock and Karma Lamping; brother Robert (Pat) Mishler; grandchildren Parker Maples, Hayden (Rachel) Maples, Cameron Harston, and Miriah (Nick) Hittler. Great-grandchildren Cooper Hittler, Carson Hittler, Brady Hittler, Blakely Maples and Carter Maples; and nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to the Ness County Bank Board Foundation and Wild West Catbackers.
A memorial service will be on May 10, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home.
Words of sympathy and support may be left for the family by writing in the guestbook.
