Joyce Genette Teter Hunter, age 83, died March 26, 2011 at Hays Med., Hays, Kansas. She was born October 18, 1927 at Enid, Oklahoma to Harrison and Grace Lucille Robertson Teter. On December 28, 1946 she married George Harold Hunter at Tucson, Arizona. Born to this union were two daughters, Joyce Lucille, born May 7, 1948 at Long Beach, California and Holly Laureen born December 21, 1954 at Long Beach, California. She is survived by her husband, George of McCracken; her daughters Joyce Mays, Long Beach, California, and Holly Schkoda and her husband Keith of Anaheim, California, four grandchildren, Michele and her husband Ray Gill, Anaheim, California; Scott Mays and his wife, Kendra, of Bazine and Stacey Schkoda of Long Beach. She is also survived by three nieces, Patricia Winter, Nancy Royal and Susan Welborn and her caretaker and friend Austin McGaughey. She was preceded in death by her sister Patricia Lucille Teter Earl and her brother-in-law, Donald Mark Earl, her parents, Harry and Lucille Teter, her aunts, Loraine Ramsey and Drewie McGaughey.
Joyce was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and a 50 year member of the McCracken chapter. She was an active member of Jonathan Gilbert Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution serving as Chaplain and Treasurer. She was a member of the New Era Federated Club of McCracken. Joy's interests were traveling, following sports teams, bingo and her beloved dog, Rosie.
Services will be held at St. Mary's Church in McCracken on Thursday, March 31, 2011, 11:00 A.M. with Father Rene Labrador presiding. Graveside services are pending at Sunny Side Historical Memorial Park, Long Beach, California. Friends may call at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City on Wednesday from 9 am until 8 pm and at the church on Thursday from 10 am until service time. Memorials may be given to McCracken Alumni Association or Jonathan Gilbert Chapter NSDAR.
