Karen Sue Sherwin, 57, passed away on November 12, 2024, at her home in Garden City, Kansas. She was born on June 21, 1967, in Ness City, the daughter of Warren and Alberta (Anderson) Sherwin. Karen grew up on the family farm in southwest Ness County and was a 1985 graduate of Ness City High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society and active in 4-H, as well as enjoyed babysitting many different local children. She graduated from Barton Community College with an Associate of Arts in Business in 1987 and then continued on to Tabor University.
She was active in Buda Sunday School—playing the piano and helping with children's church, as well as taking her turn with the weekly notes. She was a delegate with a Methodist tour throughout the eastern part of the U.S. She continued to attend the First United Methodist Church of Garden City and later, the Bible Christian Church and a Seventh-day Adventist Church small group also in Garden City for a number of years, as well as periodic attendance at Cornerstone Church more recently. Karen served the Garden City community through volunteering in numerous places, including playing the piano, and preparing meals for assisted living facilities. She also enjoyed giving gifts to others, cooking and cats.
Karen is survived by her three sisters, Rhonda (Steve) Ashworth of Amsterdam, Netherlands; Brenda Sherwin of Jackson Hole, WY; and Shelly Sherwin of Elfrida, AZ; nephews and nieces, John Ashworth of Elgin, IL; Sarah (James) Heatley of Oxford, England; Marie Ashworth of Wheaton, IL; Richard Wheeler (Alena Watts) and Nathan Wheeler of Tucson, AZ and one great niece, Luna Wheeler, of Tucson, AZ; and stepmother, Norma Binns Sherwin of Scott City; and stepbrothers, Tony (Leanna) Binns of Leoti and Larry Weeks of Brownell. She was preceded in death by her parents, Warren and Alberta Sherwin, her stepmother, Dorothy Weeks Sherwin, and her brother Scott Sherwin.
A memorial service will be held at Ness City Methodist Church on Monday, November 18, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Buda Cemetery, Beeler, KS. Friends may call at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, in Ness City on Sunday, November 17, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to Operation Christmas Child by Samaritan's Purse.
