May 30, 1930 – October 5, 2020
Kenneth H. Brackney, age 90, passed away on Monday October 5 th , 2020 at Cedar Village Care Center, Ness City, Kansas. He was born on May 30, 1930 in La Crosse, Kansas the son of Gertie (Wierman) and Hubert Brackney.
He served four years in the US Navy, obtained his undergraduate degree from Kansas State University and Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from Colorado State University. He worked for several companies before working and retiring from Honeywell in Littleton, Colorado after 20+ years. Among Ken's recent accomplishments included becoming a member of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) and completing the build of a 1/7 th scale remote-controlled B-25 model aircraft (with a wing span of 10 feet) which he proudly named the "Gertie B." Some of Ken's hobbies included: Ham radio operator, gardening, reading, card games, socializing and breaking bread with others.
On June 2, 1958 he married Leonita "Nita" Gabel in Ness City, Kansas.
Ken is survived by his son, Bob Brackney, Ness City, Kansas; three daughters, Pam Stum and husband Lance of Ness City, Lora Houk and husband Keith of Centennial, Colorado, and Rhonda Larance and husband Brad of Littleton, Colorado; two grandchildren, Dillon Stum and wife Kelsey of Hays, Kansas and Joslyn Stum & Luke Keener (fiancee) of Olmitz, Kansas; one great grandson, Theodore "Teddy" son of Dillon and Kelsey Stum; sister Shirley Gabel of Ness City, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his wife Nita Brackney, parents Gertie and Hubert Brackney and brother Duane Brackney.
Rosary will be at Sacred Heart Church in Ness City Kansas on Friday, October 9, 2020, 1:30 PM, followed immediately by funeral mass at 2:00 PM. Burial at the Sacred Heart Cemetery. During this time of COVID, family kindly request a mask be worn.
Public viewing will be at Fitzgerald Funeral Home on Thursday, October 8, 2020 from 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Sacred Heart Cemetery Fund or Ness City Leisure Years.
