Leonita "Nita" Cecilia Brackney, age 79, passed away on May 23, 2015 at the Newton Medical Center, Newton, Kansas. She was born on June 2, 1935 in Marshfield, Missouri the daughter of Peter A. and Martina Meis Gabel.

She was a homemaker, a member of the Sacred Heart Church, Altar Society and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 152 all of Ness City.

On June 2, 1958 she married Kenneth Brackney in Ness City, Kansas. He survives.

Other survivors include son, Robert Brackney, Wasilla, Alaska; three daughters, Pam Stum and her husband, Lance of Ness City, Lora Houk and her husband, Keith of Centennial, Colorado, and Rhonda Larance and her husband, Brad of Littleton, Colorado; two grandchildren, Dillon Stum and his wife, Kelsey and Joslyn Stum; one brother, Pete Gabel and three sisters, Marge Leiker, Patty Weigel, and Bonnie Rebel. She was preceded in death by nine brothers and one sister.

Rosary will be at Fitzgerald Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at 7:00 P.M. Funeral service will be at the Sacred Heart Church on Wednesday, May 27, 2015, 10:00 A.M. with burial following in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 9:00 A.M. until the rosary begins at Fitzgerald Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Sacred Heart Cemetery Fund or the Ness County Healthcare Foundation.
