Letha Mae
Babcock
December 12, 1933 – January 15, 2024
Letha Mae Babcock was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She gained her wings and went home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 15, 2024 at age 90.
Letha was born on December 12, 1933 in Hugoton, Ks., the daughter of Isaac and Eunice (Hawk) Harvey. Letha attended the Utica schools and graduated from Utica High School. On June 13, 1953 she married Delbert Babcock in Las Cruces, NM. He preceded her in death on May 13, 2015. Four children were born from this union.
Letha was a member of the Utica Methodist Church and the Methodist's women's group. She was a certified Lay Speaker and filled the pulpit for many different Methodist churches. She was a founding member of the Utica Dragon's "Silver Haired Fan Club" where they attended many games cheering on the young players. Players today still talk about that group of Silvered Haired ladies. She was a Homemaker that truly enjoyed taking care of her family. She had many amazing creations come out of her kitchen. Her most famous were her donuts, fried chicken and soft pies.
Letha was blessed with talent and creativity. Her most known talent was her voice, and she sang for church, weddings and many Life Celebration's. Her creativity was shared through her sewing, canvas paintings and many homemade crafts that family and friends enjoyed receiving. She had numerous hobbies with a couple being reading, solitaire and watching Fox News. She also had an onery side that not everyone saw, that's probably what drew her to Delbert. Some traits she possessed that made her fun and easy to love was the ability to laugh at herself and a fun side that was great to tease. The ability to stay up all night and visit, mainly with grandkids, many memoires were made in the middle of the night.
Survivors include her children: Keene (Linda) Babcock, Peck, KS.; Cindy (Doug) Slattery, LaCrosse, KS.; Barry (Pam), Buhler, Ks., Norma Babcock; Haysville, KS. 10 Grandchildren, 22 Great-Grandchildren, 2 Great-Great-Grandchildren. Sister Wanda (Jerry) Boxberger, WaKeeney, KS.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Greg, her brothers Calvin, Alan, Larry and Fred Harvey and sisters Maryetta Parks and Phyllis Mendenhall.
Her Celebration of Life will be on April 20, 2024 at the Methodist Church in Utica, KS at 10:30 a.m.
