Obituary

Loretta Sue (Moeder) Stoecklein, 68, passed away on March 24, 2022 at the Ascension Via Christi Hospital, St. Francis Campus in Wichita, Kansas.  She was born on June 24, 1953 in Hays, Kansas and is the daughter of Albert and Henrietta (Peterson) Moeder; and step-daughter of Henry Stecklein.

Loretta was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and the Altar Society, and a proud alumni of Sacred Heart School.  She started her land title professional career as an employee of Floyd & Floyd Abstracters.  On May 26, 1973 she married Kenneth Stoecklein.  She put her career on hold to start her family.  Three children blessed this marriage.  In 1986 she went back to her chosen career path with her position as the deputy Register of Deeds, and became the Register of Deeds herself and continued to serve the public in Ness County for 20 years.  She was a former member and past president of the Kansas Register of Deeds Association.  She later obtained her Kansas Title insurance license, and became a member of the Kansas Land Title Association.

Any one that knew her, knew how infectious her laughter and smile could be. Her sense of integrity and justice was unshakable. Her personality was bigger than her ego. To her, a stranger was a possible friend that she just hadn't met yet. Her love of her entire family and her faith ran bone deep.  Never one to turn down a new adventure or quest for knowledge to share, she had many hobbies.  She became most known for the one she loved to share with all the children….planting dill to host caterpillars to hatch into butterflies, and she shared all her knowledge with any child interested.  Her family began to refer to her as the "Butterfly Lady".  Always prepared to feed a crowd, if you left her house hungry it was your own fault, but you'd better not throw away the plastic silverware. She was very proud of her thriftiness.  Her way to communicate her love was to remind you to "wear a life jacket, a helmet and to watch for deer".

She married Jack Bever on July 18, 2009, in Ness City, Kansas. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include her daughter, Megan Stoecklein of Ness City; her two sons, Timothy Stoecklein and his wife, Kylie, of Scott City, and Jeffrey Stoecklein and his wife, Tina, of Colorado; step-sons, Jesse Bever and his wife, Jennifer, of Atlanta, GA and Danny Bever and his wife, Heather, of Olathe, KS; her 10 siblings, James Moeder, Mary (Moeder) Kraus, Joyce (Moeder) Love, Carroll Stecklein, Myron Stecklein, Patty (Stecklein) Rodeman, Frank Stecklein, Dan Stecklein, and Diane (Stecklein) Erb; and her 10 grandchildren, Justin Ramsey, Sage Stoecklein, Brody Stoecklein, Trey Stoecklein, Kennedy Stoecklein, Alex Bever, Kamryn Bever, Peyton Bever, Kinley Bever, Wren Bever; and two step-grandsons, T. J. Price and Trevor VanDegrift.  She was preceded in death by parents, Albert and Henrietta Moeder and her step-father, Henry Stecklein, sister, Bonnie (Stecklein) Schween, and brother, Benjamin Stecklein.
