Obituary

Louise Marie Baker, 83, passed away on May 26, 2026, at the Ness County Hospital in Ness City, Kansas. She was born on October 9, 1942, in Ness City, Kansas the daughter of Leland and Alice (Bender) Schriock.

Louise married Kenneth Ray Baker on June 4, 1961 in Bazine, Kansas. He preceded her in death on March 21, 2021. They had three children: Terry Allen, Roger Wayne, and Connie Ann who died in infancy.

She attended Bazine Elementary and High School where she graduated with the class of 1960. She attended and graduated from American Business College, in Wichita, Kansas.

She worked in Wichita, Kansas and Denver, Colorado then she began working at Bazine High School in 1965 and continued working for USD 304 and USD 106 for 43 years before retiring in 2008. She loved working with children and missed the daily interaction with them after retirement.

She was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Bazine where she taught Sunday School class and was Secretary of the church Board for several years. She was also a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Scott City, Kansas. Most of all she was a member of the Christian faith.

Louise also served on the Bazine City Counsel. She has belonged to the Kansas Association of Educational Office Professionals where she served in various positions as well as President. She had also been a member of the National Association of Educational Professionals. She helped for many years in organizing the Bazine Alumni Reunions. She was selected as Grand Marshall of the annual Bazine Picnic in 2008.

Survivors include 2 sons, Terry (Carolyn) Baker of Wichita, Roger (Connie) Baker of Bazine; sister, Beverly (Michael) Lindsey of Newton; 5 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth Baker; and her daughter, Connie Ann.

Funeral service will be on Monday, June 1, 2026, 11:00 a.m., at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City, Kansas. Burial in the Bazine Cemetery, Bazine, Kansas. Friends may call at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City, Kansas, on Sunday, May 31, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be given to the St. Paul Congregational Church or Christ Pilot Me Hill.
