Obituary

Margaret Ann Schrock, 89, of Ness City, Kansas was called home to our Lord on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at Ness County Hospital in Ness City, Kansas. Born on April 6, 1935, in Laud, Indiana, she was the daughter of Claude Raymond and Mary Alice (Reed) Treece. Marge had three brothers and a sister.

Marge grew up during the depression in Whitley County, Indiana and attended Columbia City High School. She was a tuberculosis survivor and spent a period of her childhood in the TB sanitarium in Fort Wayne. She married George Bauer in 1952 and they resided in Columbia City, Indiana. They had three sons, William, Dennis, and Brady Bauer. They later divorced. Marge married Elmer Schrock on December 26, 1969, and they had a daughter, Roxene (Phil) Hagans. They moved from Topeka, Indiana to Havre, Montana where they resided for ten years. Work took them to Kansas where they laid down roots for 44 years. They owned the Beer Barn in Ransom and people would drive miles to eat her lunch specials. They enjoyed working in their upholstery shop as a hobby. After retiring from business ownership, she kept herself busy working various jobs and babysitting her grandchildren later in life. Marge was known for her impeccable taste in clothing and jewelry, always dressing to the nines and never went without hair and makeup on point. She was admired as a woman of grace and grit. Through her life lessons, she developed a canny knack of saying what was on her mind with a clever sense of wit that made us all laugh. She was an avid reader of biographies and murder mysteries, loved Elvis, Merle Haggard, and any music that made a person want to dance. She was sharp as a tack at crossword puzzles until her eyesight would no longer allow. She loved to work in her flowerbeds and her vegetable garden. In her younger years, you could find her canning vegetables in the summer that she used to make the most delicious meals.

She is survived by her children William (MaryJo) Bauer, Eagan, MN; Brady (Dee) Bauer, Ness City, KS; and Roxene (Phil) Hagans, Columbia City, IN; 8 grandchildren, Michelle (Todd) Remus (Borlaug), Greg (Julie) Borlaug, Dennis Bauer Jr., Brittany (Ty) Bauer, Josh (Lauren) Crombie, Dalton (Madison) Bauer, Kylie (Travis) Babler (Hagans), and William Bauer; and 9 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Dennis Bauer, her husband Elmer Schrock, 3 brothers, Roger (Betty) Treece, Charles (Barbara) Treece, and Anthony (Helen) Treece, a sister, Beverly (Paul) Chappel (Treece) and her daughter in law, DeeVon (Brady) Bauer.
