Marjorie "Midge" Davenport, age 97, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at her home in the Mennonite Manor, South Hutchinson, Kansas. She was born on December 12, 1914 in Ness County the seventh of nine children to Charles A. and Elizabeth Jaehde Klitzke.
She was a homemaker, raising her family in McCracken, Kansas. She loved to can the vegetables she grew in her garden, grow flowers, quilt with other ladies of the community and in her later years she became an accomplished portrait painter. On December 27, 1935 she married Lyle Davenport in McCracken. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by her son, David Davenport and his wife Carolyn, Hutchinson, two grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and her sister Ruth Daniels, Scott City, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by five brothers: Carl, Walter, Theodore, Lee, and Bob Klitzke and two sisters: Josephine Sidebottom and Emma Schertz.
Funeral service will be Saturday, April 28, 2012, 10:30 A.M. at the United Methodist Church, McCracken with burial in the McCracken Cemetery. Friends may call at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City, Kansas on Friday from 9 am until 9 pm or at the church from 9:00 am until service time. Memorial contributions may be given to the Mennonite Manor, McCracken Methodist Church or the McCracken Alumni Jail Museum.
