Melvin R. Rohr, age 84, passed away on September 11, 2013 in the Ness County Hospital, Ness City. He was born in Ness City, Kansas on July 18, 1929 to Emil and Beatha Haas Rohr.
He graduated from Ness City High School in 1947, served in the U.S Coast Guard until a shipwreck and severe burns gave him an early discharge. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, a Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, served as president of the Ness City Chamber of Commerce, a member of the City Council, and a board member of the Bank Building Foundation.
After starting in the dairy business with his father, Melvin and his wife, Joann, started the E & M Wholesale Food Business. In 1988 he retired and sold the business.
On October 6, 1949 he married Joann Delaney in Ness City. She survives. Other survivors include his two sons, Terry and his wife Jane Rohr of Colorado Springs, CO, Mike and his wife Carol Rohr of Shawnee, Kansas; one brother, Thomas Lynn and his wife Kathy Rohr of Chicago, IL; two brothers-in-law, Howard and his wife Barbara Delaney and Melvin Meis; one sister-in-law, Norma Delaney; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Lora Jean Meis.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, September 14, 2013, 10:00 A.M. at the Sacred Heart Church, Ness City. Rosary will be on Friday, September 13, 2013, 7:00 P.M at the church. Burial in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Ness City. Friends may call from 9:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City. Memorial contributions may be given to the Sacred Heart Church.
