Michael Edwin McFarren, 73, passed away on March 31, 2025, at his home in Bazine, Kansas. Born on August 30, 1951, in Ransom, Kansas, he was the son of Richard and Ruth (Musbach) McFarren. Michael was a true "Jack of all Trades," working most notably as a custom cutter alongside his brother-in-law and as a truck driver in the oil industry. He also spent time working at the Bazine Coop and tending bar for his sister.
Michael attended Ness City High School before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps, where he served in Okinawa during the Vietnam War and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.
He is survived by his daughter, Amanda Slagle (Justin) of Ness City; son, Shawn Summey (Michelle) of Deer Park, Texas; brothers, Kris and Kory McFarren, both of Ness City; two sisters, Kim Schugart (Jim) of Bazine and Melody Suppes (Jim) of Hutchinson; 9 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Ron Roth.
There will not be a memorial service at this time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the KU School of Medicine Willed Body Program.
