Rachel Irene Dinges, 95, of Ness City, Kansas, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2025, at the Ranch House in Garden City, Kansas. Born on May 22, 1930, in Bazine, Kansas, to Henry and Ella (Kirschman) Rahm.
Rachel was a devoted homemaker and farm wife, often speaking fondly of "her farm," where she poured her heart into nurturing both crops and family. Her green thumb brought vibrant gardens and beautiful flowers to life, a testament to her love for the land. A faithful member of Sacred Heart Church and its Altar Society in Ness City. She also cherished traveling across the United States with her family, creating memories that will live on in their hearts.
On May 31, 1949, Rachel married her beloved husband, Joe Dinges, in Ness City. Together, they built a life rooted in love and partnership until Joe's passing on July 4, 2014. Rachel was also preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Ella Rahm, her brother Melvin Rahm, and her sister Darlene Burditt.
Rachel is survived by her son, Brad Dinges and friend Lana of Ness City; her daughters, Marlene Elsey and her husband, John, of Garden City, and Kathleen Elsey and her husband, Bruce, of Greenwood Village, Colorado; her brother, Jim Rahm of Loveland, Colorado; four grandchildren, Chris Elsey, Bryan Elsey, Ashlee Dinges, and Taylor Janzen; and eight great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry forward her legacy of warmth and resilience.
A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Rachel's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Sacred Heart Church in Ness City, followed by burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery. A parish vigil will take place at Fitzgerald Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at 6:30 p.m.
Friends may sign the book and pay their respects at Fitzgerald Funeral Home on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with the casket closed.
