Reita Mae Gabel, age 73, passed away on June 6, 2012 at the Rhode Island Suites, Ransom, Kansas. She was born in Marion, Kansas on July 4, 1938 the daughter of George and Lorena Kuhn Bessel.
She worked as a nurses' aide for many years. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and a member of the Altar Society both of Ness City.
On July 4, 1956 she married Milton "Stubby" Gabel in Oak Harbor, Washington. They were divorced and he later preceded her in death in May of 2002.
Reita is survived by six sons, Ronnie (Marcia), Donnie, Terry, and Tim, all of Ness City, Gary (Rhonda), Great Bend, Kansas, and Kelly Gabel, Oakley, Kansas; two daughters, Debbie Overocker, Garden City, Kansas and Sharon (Norman) Castor, Ness City; one sister, Donna Harper, Phoenix, Arizona and a brother, Jerry (Barbara) Bessel, Assaria, Kansas; 19 grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters: Brenda Zeller and Theresa Gabel, a granddaughter, Cindy Overocker and a great granddaughter, Emma Overocker.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, June 11, 2012, 10:30 A.M. at the Sacred Heart Church, Ness City with burial following in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Rosary at the church will be Sunday, June 10, 6:30 PM. Friends may call at Fitzgerald Funeral Home on Saturday from 9:00 A.M until 9:00 PM and on Sunday from 10:00 A.M until 4:00 P.M. Memorial contributions may be given to the Reita Gabel Funeral Fund.
