Obituary

Rex Whipple, age 95, died on March 16, 2025, at the Scott County Hospital, Scott City, Kansas.  He was born on September 17, 1929, in Beeler, Kansas the son of Jacob and Bernice (Gilmore) Whipple.

Rex was born and raised on the family farm, South of Beeler, where he lived the rest of his life.  He began his lifelong career of farming and ranching at the age of 14.  On June 1, 1952, he married Donna Colleen Stout in Ness City.  Together they raised their four children in the home where Rex grew up.  Rex was a member of the Beeler Methodist Church and was a long time member of the Beeler Fire Department.  He served for many years on the Johnson Township board and the Beeler School board, and he was a founding member and helped build the Beeler Coop.

Rex is survived by his daughter Barbara Harrold and her husband, Terry, of Ness City; three sons, Randy Whipple and his friend, Michelle, of Dighton, Marvin Whipple and his wife, Lisa, of Pawnee Rock, and Darwin Whipple of Beeler; eight grandchildren, Jeane Holton, Wendy Miller, Andrea Bernard, Tiffany Alf, Brandi Hartley, Alyssa Frick, Faren Ostmeyer, and Alexis Whipple; 20 great grandchildren; one brother, Donald Whipple of Arvada, Colorado and one sister, Jennie Bates, of Denver, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Donna, on October 10, 2024; his parents, seven brothers, Clarence, Fenton, Jim, Tom, Wayne, and Paul Whipple and Thayne Starner; three sisters, Hazel Prose, Ruby Mather, and LaVerne Handy; daughter-in-law, Beverly Whipple; and two great grandsons, James and John Frick.

Funeral service will be on Friday, March 21, 2025, 10:30 a.m., at the First Baptist Church, Ness City followed by burial in the Beeler Cemetery, Beeler, Kansas.  Friends may call at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City, on Thursday, March 20, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Beeler Fire Department or the Beeler Community Building.
