Richard P. Ummel, age 64, passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at his home in Ness City, Kansas. He was born on July 5, 1947 in Ransom, the son of Rolla and Edna Wittman Ummel.
He was a retired truck driver for D&S Welding. On July 12, 1969 he married Cynthia Mauch in Ness City. To this union two children, Jay and Jerry, born. They were later divorced.
Rich is survived by his two sons, Jay, North Platte, Nebraska and Jerry (Amber), Gothenburg, Nebraska; one brother, Donald R. (Jackie), WaKeeney; two sisters, Fern Renner, Cheyenne Wells, Colorado and Doris Scott (David), Ness City, Kansas; 6 grandchildren, Dylan, Mylah, Hunter, Sophie, Cassie, and Tessa; and a very dear friend, Ellen Burns, Ransom.
He was preceded in death by his brother, David Ummel.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be at the First Mennonite Church, Ransom on Friday, July 6, 2012, 2:30 pm. Inurnment in the Ransom Cemetery with Military graveside rites by the Olin Cole American Legion Post 392 and the Sons of the American Legion, Bazine.
Contributions may be given to the Central Care Cancer Center, Great Bend and the Bazine American Legion.
