Shirley Margaret Foos, age 95, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026, at Cedar Village Long Term Care in Ness City, Kansas.

Born on November 15, 1930, on the family farm east of Beeler, Kansas, Shirley was the daughter of James E. and Alva A. (Shover) Johnson. She grew up on the farm and began her education in Beeler. During the Great Depression, her family relocated briefly, first to Cass County, Missouri, for a year of grade school, and later to Wallace County, Kansas, for less than a year, before returning to Ness County. Shirley completed grade school there and graduated from Beeler High School in 1949.

On August 18, 1950, she married Paul Calvin Foos in Ness City. The couple established their home on a farm southeast of Bazine, where they raised their three sons. Shirley was deeply involved in farm life, even teaching her boys to drive the tractor. A devoted member of the Bazine Methodist Church, she sang in the choir and participated actively in the women's group. She found joy in sewing, gardening, canning, and especially in painting landscapes and windmills, which she gifted to family and friends.

After Paul's passing on August 19, 2013, Shirley eventually retired from farm life and moved to Ness City.

Shirley is survived by her sons: Kenneth Foos and his wife, Janice, of Hays; Steve Foos of Ness City; and Kevin Foos and his wife, Sonya, of Bazine. She is also survived by her sister, Glada Ummel of Arnold; her sister-in-law, Joyce Johnson of Ness City; 6 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul; an infant daughter; her brother, Dennis Johnson; her sister, Sharon Whipple; her daughter-in-law, Jackie Foos; and her granddaughter, Chyrisse Leiker.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at the Bazine Methodist Church, followed by burial in the Bazine Cemetery.

Viewing will take place at Fitzgerald Funeral Home in Ness City on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Christ Pilot Me Hill Fund, the Ness County Healthcare Foundation, or the Bazine Methodist Church.
