Shirley Gertrude Gabel, 85, passed away on May 10, 2021 at her son's home in Wichita, Kansas.  She was born on October 7, 1935 in LaCrosse, Kansas the daughter of Hubert and Gertrude (Wierman) Brackney.

She a was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and Altar Society, she served on the board of the Ness City Leisure Years Center and was a member of the Frank Stull Post 152 American Legion Auxiliary.  Shirley worked for over 45 years at the Ness County Hospital in dietary and as the purchasing agent.  She married Alex A. "Junior" Gabel on November 10, 1959, in Ness City, Kansas. He proceeded her in death on June 14, 2005.

Survivors include a daughter, Valerie Gabel (Randy) of Rowlett, Texas; three sons, Steve Brackney (Sharon) of Charleston, South Carolina, Craig Gabel (Teresa) of Wichita, and Brian Gabel (Carolyn) of Ness City; 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, "Junior" Gabel, two brothers, Kenneth and Duane Brackney; two grandchildren, Jacob and Tyler Gabel; a sister-in-law, Nita Brackney; and a niece, Jolinda.

Rosary followed by the Parish Vigil will be held at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City on Friday, May 14, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. Funeral service will be on Saturday, May 15, 2021, 10:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church, Ness City followed by burial in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Ness City.  Friends may call at Fitzgerald Funeral Home on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Immediately following the burial, there will be a meal at the Ness City Leisure Years Center.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Sacred Heart Cemetery Fund or the Ness City Library.
