Shirley Elizabeth Jones, 92, passed away on September 30, 2021 at the Gove County Medical Center in Quinter, Kansas.  She was born on February 20, 1929 in Herndon, Kansas the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Goltl) Grafel.

On August 21, 1949 she married Bill Jones in Herndon, Kansas. The couple made their home on a farm South of Quinter where they raised their two children.  Shirley was very active on the farm and with the cattle.  Shirley always made time to lead many 4-H activities, sew, quilt, and raise amazing garden vegetables.  Shirley loved to bake, especially her chocolate meringue pie and some would say she was the world's greatest cook.  The 4-H kids will always remember the delicious donuts she would bring to the meetings.  Shirley was also an active member of the United Methodist Church in Utica.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Bill; her son, Doug Jones of Park, Kansas; her daughter, Linda Prather and her husband, Jeff, of Gove, Kansas; five grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.   She was preceded in death by her brothers, John and Wayne Grafel and her sisters, Laverna Sallans and Elaine Bryan.

Funeral service will be on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, 11:00 a.m., at the United Methodist Church, Utica, Kansas.  Burial in the Utica Cemetery.  Friends may call at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City on Monday, October 4, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.  with the family present from 5:00 - 7:00p.m. The casket will be closed.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Gove County Medical Center or the Gove County 4-H Council.
