Truman Lane Roane, age 90, passed away at the Rhode Island Suites, Ransom, Kansas on November 7, 2011.
He was born on August 19, 1921 in Randolph, Mississippi, the son of Joseph and Ruth Harrelson Roane.
He was an United States Army Air Force veteran, where he was stationed in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was a TTC Communications instructor for the United States Army Air Force.
On December 12, 1942, he married Thelma Bowden in Luverne, Minnesota. She preceded him in death on October 24, 2007.
He is survived by his daughter, Sydna Reeves, WaKeeney; daughter-in-law, Glenda Roane, Ness City; sisters, Mabel Dickinson, Abbeyville, Louisiana, Naomi Olive, Little Rock, Arkansas, Stella Johnson, Ft. Smith, Arkansas, and Rita Young, Bandero, Texas; sister-in-law, Ila Beth Roane, Ft. Worth, Texas; nine grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren with another one on the way.
He was preceded in death by his Parents; son, Dennis Roane; and son-in-law, Leon Reeves.
Truman attended Oklahoma State University and received his Masters of Science degree. He received his Doctorate degree out of Colorado. He taught in many schools throughout Kansas and Texas. He was Superintendent of Beeler from 1954 to 1958. We was also a teacher for many years at Andress High School in El Paso, Texas.
He loved children and always did his best to help students learn no matter what their capacity for learning was. He loved gospel music and sang with a family quartet, The Roane Quartet. He was a member of the Baptist Church in El Paso, Texas and the American Legion, WaKeeney.
Truman was greatly interested in politics. He attended the Presidential inauguration of Jimmy Carter. Truman went the American way, traveling by bus, from El Paso, Texas to Washington, DC.
Graveside Service will be at the Beeler Cemetery on Friday, November 11, 2011, 11:00 AM. Friends may call on Thursday from 12 noon until 9:00 PM at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Ness City First Baptist Church or Beeler United Methodist Church.
