Obituary

Urban Mathew Landwehr, 89, passed away February 15, 2011, in Halstead. He willed his body to KU Medical Center.

Born June 4, 1921, in Ransom to Frank and Elizabeth Friess Landwehr. He was a farmer, owner and agent of Landwehr Insurance, and a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post #380, and a charter member and the first Post Commander of VFW Post #7972.

On March 30, 1959, he married Rose Halsing. She preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by former wife, Jeanette Winter, whom he had married May 31, 1949.

Survivors include: sons,Bill (Rose Ann)Landwehr, Osan AFB, South Korea and Larry Landwehr, Great Bend; daughters: Susan (George) Ketter, Franklin Grove, IL, Elizabeth (Mike) Gannon, Lenora, Joann (Joe) Bergkamp, Halstead, Betty Jean (Ray) Kaspar, Buena Vista, CO, Barbara Dawley, WaKeeney, and Juanita (Wayne) Parson, Ellis; sisters: Berniece Pfannenstiel, Ransom, Leona Schulte, Victoria, and Arlene Langer, Ness City; 19 Grandchildren and 15 Great Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers: Leander Landwehr, Mark Landwehr, Gilbert Landwehr, and
LaVerne Landwehr; and 2 grandchildren: Jarett Bergkamp and Kelli Stadler.

Memorial Mass will be at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Ransom on Wednesday February 23, 11:00 A.M. officiated by Fr. Henry Hildebrandt and Fr. David Kraus. Rosary led by Knights of Columbus will precede service at 10:30 A.M. There will be a memorial service in Halstead at a later date.
