Valera L. "Val" Musselman, age 101, died Monday, November 20, 2017 at Rhode Island Suites, Ransom. She was born on December 23, 1915 on a farm near Hamilton, Missouri the daughter of William B. and Ella H. Leavell Stone.
Val learned the art of sewing early in life and put it to use during World War II making boots and later making baseball caps.
She married Paul M. Musselman in Scott City, Kansas on December 18, 1971. They enjoyed 32 and ½ years together in Scott City and Garden City, eventually retiring to Brownell. Many of their later years in Brownell were spent operating an upholstery business and entertaining family and friends. Val is especially remembered for her talent as a seamstress, making beautiful clothes and draperies.
Val was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, on June 12, 2004. She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law Bill Cheney.
She is survived by four children, Sherry Cheney of Colby, Kathy Tevebaugh and her husband, Bill, of Wichita, Gary Musselman and his wife, Nancy, of Silver Lake, and Joyce Musselman of Wichita; five grandsons and 6 great granddaughters.
A funeral service and burial will be held for Val at the Vansburgh Cemetery, Brownell, Kansas on Friday, November 24, 2017, 1:00 P.M.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Brownell American Legion Sunley-Squier Post No. 382.
