Vera Jean Huxman, age 89, passed away July 17, 2014 at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.

Jean was born April 10, 1925 in Forrester Township, Ness County, Kansas. She was one of four children born to Charles and Margery (Rowe) Conkright.

She resided in the Arnold community her entire life. The past two years she was a resident of Rhode Island Suites at Ransom, Kansas.

Jean was a 1942 graduate of Arnold High School. She enjoyed being a farmer's wife and throughout her life she also worked in a filling station, the Arnold State Bank, managed the Ransom Coop for a period of time and retired from the Ransom High School as the school secretary in 1991 after 24 years. She was an active member in the Arnold United Methodist Church and enjoyed going to church until her health prohibited it. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Ransom, Kansas.

On November 15, 1942 she married Rex Huxman in her parents' home West of Arnold. To this union three children were born, Kent, Kim, and Kristin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex, her son, Kim, and her daughter, Kristin, her sisters Beulah Huxman and Maxine Giess; and her brother Orval Conkright.

She is survived by her son Kent and his wife Peggy; five grandchildren, Jason and wife Debbie, Jeremy and wife Amy, Ashley and husband Joe, Lana and husband Dean, and Scott and wife Whitney; 12 great grandchildren, Blake, Janae, Leah, Noah, Lyndon, Kamren, Kassidy, Logan, Preston, Morgan, Julia, and Luke; step-great grandson, Kenton; and step-great great grandson, Keegan.

Funeral service will be Monday, July 21, 2014, 10:30 A.M. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City, Kansas with burial following in the Arnold Cemetery. Friends may call at Fitzgerald Funeral Home on Sunday from 10:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M with the family present from
6 -7 PM.
