Vera Edith Schweitzer, age 97, passed away on December 6, 2013 at the Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas. She was born on October 25, 1916 in Ransom, Kansas the daughter of Ralph Randall and Edith Barber.
She was a lifetime resident of Ness County and moved to Ness City in 1946. She attended Ransom High School and was a member of the First Baptist Church, Ness City. She was a former member and officer of the Rebekah Lodge and worked for many area businesses including Rexall Drug, B&G Variety Store and the Richolson Lumber Yard.
She is survived by her three daughters, Wanda Jo Baugh, Carthage, Missouri, Donna Dee Hilmes-Hurn (Kent Hurn), Topeka, Kansas, and Julie Keller (John), Spokane, Washington; sister, Joan Rothe (Gary), Wichita, Kansas; daughter-in-law, Ellen Lyon, Hutchinson, Kansas; 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, seven great great grandchildren; four step-daughters and 2 step-sons.
Left behind to honor Vera is her very best friend, Marcella Briand.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Joe Lyon, Jessee Clouston, and Garland Schweitzer; her son, Dean Lyon; brothers, Gilbert and Theron Randall; one granddaughter; one great grandson; one step-daughter; and one step-son.
Friends may call at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City on Saturday, December 7, 2013 from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM and on Sunday from 10:00 until 12:30 PM.
Funeral Service and burial will be at the Ransom Cemetery, Ransom, Kansas on Sunday, December 8, 2013, 2:00 P.M.
