Richard Joseph Kerr, 70, of Ness City, Kansas, passed away in Ness City on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

He was born on February 12, 1956, in Dodge City, Kansas, the son of Howard and Florence (Gabel) Kerr.

Rick worked as a carpenter for many years in Topeka, where he built office buildings and helped countless others with their carpentry needs. Always willing to lend a hand, he was known for his generous spirit and readiness to help anyone in need.

In his free time, Rick enjoyed watching NASCAR and attending races. He was a devoted fan of the North Carolina Tar Heels and an avid golfer who cherished many golf trips with his cousins, friends, and family. He never met a stranger, loved sharing jokes and stories, and was famous for his playful practical jokes. Above all, Rick cherished his family, which often extended to include friends and co-workers, and held a deep faith in God.

He is survived by his sister, Leigh Ann Hendrickson of WaKeeney; and three brothers: Gaylen (Debra) Kerr of Ness City, Frank (Linda) Kerr of Topeka, and Dave (Mary) Kerr. He also leaves behind six nephews and four nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Howard Lee Kerr.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, April 6, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Ness City, with burial to follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. A Parish Vigil will be held on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home. Viewing will be on Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart Masses, Sacred Heart Cemetery, or Wheatview Apartments.
